Founded in 1897, the RAC has made both significant and historic contributions towards modern road safety. In 1901 they introduced uniformed patrols, in 1907 they were awarded the royal approval and in 1912 they introduced roadside emergency telephone boxes. Today, with more than 8 million members the RAC remains at the forefront of developing motoring services and assist both private and business motorists. The success of the RAC is based on the ability to evolve their services to meet the demands of an increasingly technical fleet of vehicles, and they pride themselves on carrying one of the world’s most advanced computer systems to deal with calls for roadside assistance.
