Blue Finch Films is an independent film sales and distribution company working across UK releases and international markets. Its slate spans commercial and critically acclaimed feature films and documentaries, from carefully targeted digital and home-entertainment campaigns to nationwide theatrical releases.
The brief
Having created the Blue Finch brand and visual identity, BakerWilcox was asked to extend it into motion through a distinctive animated screen ident. Appearing before each film, the sequence needed to introduce the company with confidence, establish immediate recognition, work cross-genre and feel cinematic enough to sit naturally alongside a broad and varied slate of releases. The brief also included the creation of an original soundscape, ensuring that the identity would be recognised not only through its visual language but through a memorable sonic signature.
BakerWilcox have helped us bring many films to market over the years. They have a wonderful ability to deliver time and again, with their unique talent for original, thoughtful design and their instinct for seeing each project through the eyes of global audiences, regardless of genre.

The execution
The animation begins in near darkness, surrounded by a shifting mass of black feathers. Their movement creates a sense of anticipation and quiet tension, drawing the audience into the sequence before the Blue Finch identity is fully revealed.
As the feathers begin to separate, fragments of blue emerge from the darkness. This gradual transition from shadow into light reflects the structure of the logo itself, allowing the finch to feel discovered rather than simply placed on screen. The restrained pace gives the reveal a cinematic quality, while the contrast between deep blacks and luminous blue reinforces the visual character of the wider brand.
Sound was developed alongside the motion rather than treated as a final addition. Subtle atmospheric textures, the suggestion of movement and a carefully timed final resolve support the transition from darkness to light, giving the sequence weight and presence within the cinema environment.

The finished ident was produced across 3, 5 and 9 second edits and provides Blue Finch with a recognisable cinematic signature, connecting every release back to the company while also remaining restrained enough to precede films across many different genres.
